Packt Publishing Interview with Sasha Kranjac

In connection to my recently published book, “Microsoft Defender for Cloud Cookbook“, Packt Publishing recently published an interview with me, and I’d like to take an opportunity to repost it.

Sasha Kranjac is the author of Microsoft Defender for Cloud Cookbook; we got the chance to sit down with him and find out more about him experience of writing with Packt.

Q: What are your specialist tech areas?
Sasha: Security – cloud and hybrid

Q: How did you become an author for Packt? Tell us about your journey. What was your motivation for writing this book?
Sasha: I have co-authored and have been a Technical Reviewer for several books, and when I was approached to write a book about a security service/product in Azure, I happily accepted.

Q: What kind of research did you do, and how long did you spend researching before beginning the book?
Sasha: I had working experience with Microsoft Defender for Cloud (formerly Azure Security Center). Regardless of that, I always research and prepare extensively before and during writing.

Q: Did you face any challenges during the writing process? How did you overcome them?
Sasha: Finding free time to write was difficult – work and family commitments take a lot of time. Another challenge was product name change, along with GUI changes, which caused a lot of rewriting.

Q: What’s your take on the technologies discussed in the book? Where do you see these technologies heading in the future?
Sasha: Security is an extremely important topic, especially in this cloud era, and it is going to be even more relevant in the future. Microsoft will most likely continue to invest in security and cybersecurity, creating more interesting products and services, and improving existing ones.

Q: Why should readers choose this book over others already on the market? How would you differentiate your book from its competition?
Sasha: It provides unique, real-world, “no fluff” steps to get started with, and implement Microsoft Defender for Cloud. If you are a beginner, an intermediate or even a power user, you will definitely benefit from this book.

Q: What are the key takeaways you want readers to come away with from the book?
Sasha: Start with free Microsoft Defender for Cloud tier, while exploring advanced features. Complete recipes from the book and use Microsoft Defender for Cloud to improve your infrastructure security posture. Every step counts, even the smallest one.

What advice would you give to readers learning tech? Do you have any top tips?

Sasha: Like said: every step counts, even the smallest one. That applies in learning as well. Do not be afraid to learn something new every day. Read, practice, learn.

Do you have a blog that readers can follow?

Sasha: Yes, www.sasakranjac.com. Right now the website is being rebuilt and please, bookmark it, and visit the website for cloud, security and certification news and information, as well as promotions, and much more!

Q. Can you share any blogs, websites, and forums to help readers gain a holistic view of the tech they are learning?

Sasha: The AWS Public Documentation is probably the best resource for that.

Q. How would you describe your author journey with Packt? Would you recommend Packt to aspiring authors?

Sasha: Yes, I would recommend Packt. Their pipeline and attention to detail is great, specially for someone who is writing a book for the first time.

Q. What are your favorite tech journals? How do you keep yourself up to date on tech?

Sasha: I read personal blogs and news on the tech space.

How did you organize, plan, and prioritize your work and write the book?

Sasha: Nothing special, I just organize my day and try to meet any deadlines far ahead

Q. What is that one writing tip that you found most crucial and would like to share with aspiring authors?

Sasha: Always assume your readers don’t know anything, because it might be the case. The more you can simplify your explanations, the better.

Q. Would you like to share your social handles? If so, please share.
